One extended cruise around the Land Down Under is being halted days after the tragic passing of an senior female passenger who was stranded by the vessel on a isolated coastal location.

Suzanne Rees had been hiking on the remote island with fellow passengers from the cruise ship, but broke off from the excursion for a pause. The vessel left without her and went back several hours later after the ship staff realised the lady was missing.

A major rescue mission found her body the next day.

Officials are looking into the event, in coordination with police and the state coroner.

Head of the voyage organizer announced that guests and crew on the Coral Adventurer were told that the rest of the journey had been terminated due to the "tragic passing and prior mechanical issues".

In a statement, he mentioned that guests would be issued a complete reimbursement, and said the organization was working "to organize the travel back of the travelers via chartered flights".

Authorities also published an updated announcement, and said they had "delivered a order to the Master" banning any further travelers from boarding the liner.

The spokesperson said that they would attend the ship in Cairns upon its coming back.

The vessel originally sailed from Cairns on 24 October, and was just two days into the expedition at the time of the 80-year-old's death. The tropical location was the first stop on the voyage.
